Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed surgery in the United States. Once cataracts impede vision, the only option to restore it is through surgery. Dr. Vazeen and Dr. Wu have each performed thousands of these surgeries with great success. The procedure entails removal of the natural lens through a process called phacoemulsification. Once the lens is removed, a clear, plastic implant is put in its place. These devices are known as intraocular lenses, or IOLs. Gone are the days of sandbags and hospital stays. The surgery itself takes about 15 minutes, requires no needles, patches or stitches and is performed in our state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center, providing our patients with a comfortable and relaxing experience.
