Eyelid Procedures
Stye and Lesion Removal
In addition to the many different types of surgeries we perform at our outpatient surgery center, we also perform minor surgical procedures in the office.
These procedures include removing growths on the eyelids and removal of styes or chalazia.
A chalazion and a stye are very similar and both appear as lumps or bumps on the eyelids. Styes typically form when an eyelash follicle becomes inflamed and infected. They are typically located near the edge of the eyelid and can be red and painful. Chalazia typically form from an infected oil gland (called a meibomian gland). These bumps typically form away from the edge of the eyelid. In the early stages, both conditions may be treated with warm compresses and prescription eye ointment. Surgical excision and drainage may be necessary if there is no resolution with first-line treatment.
